NOTES ON MIXTAPE

not even 10 minutes in, Just Like Honey starts playing. I’m sold already, although idk if it’s the best mood-setter.

walking around feels a bit like a museum tour for nostalgia-generating tokens.

tiny interactable details like QTE for handshake and rewinding a casete tape with the joystick make the experience feel more grounded and analogic.

IS THIS SOME KISSING GAMEPLAY?!?!?

love the detail of every character headbanging their own way, at whatever tempo you want.

the game is doing a good job representing how stuff feels - images, flashbacks, etc all give a lot to the emotional context. it kinda feels like “default” emotions, though? like, not really anyone’s, but some shared imaginaria instead?

“loudness is a precious commodity; you gotta earn loudness.”

this game is gorgeous; it feels like playing a selection of music videos. art direction is really on point.

“people who have passions are hot”

the game kinda touches a lot of conflicts and worries teens have, but does so in a pretty shallow way. Like, being sort of mysterious about it, just like a teenager would do, but refusing to elaborate further.

KAIJU MODE

the “optimal teenage experience” does not exist. we all get it wrong… and right at the same time.

I mean, yeah. Rockford’s been sort of a prick. Cass has a solid point there.

More than this, by Roxy Music. another one straight to the chest.

Last night I attended Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM Ball show in Barcelona.

It felt like the sort of show Joan Miró experienced at the premiere of Serge Diaghilev’s Parade ballet in 1917; where the set design by Picasso altered the hell of Miro’s young brain chemistry.

Mate, what a show.

I’ve recently dusted off my PlayStation 3, and played some PES 2011.

Man, what a game.

Even though controls are kinda rough, and fluidity can sometimes be (almost) non-existent… this game feels so pure.

Quick game mode, tournament mode, and manager/player career mode, check every imaginable boxes if you want to play a soccer game; UI is sharp and straight to the point; and any distraction from the actual play is kept to the bare minimum.

I wish mainstream games could un-evolve back to that simplicity.
